Subject: '93 Dakota? IP: Logged
Message: Hey all...
I'm currently shopping for a used truck. Leading my list at the moment (ie, I'm going to buy it if there's no show stoppers when my mechanic checks it out monday) is a '93 Dakota, extended cab, magnum V6, automatic, 2WD, 87K miles, bucket seats, and a camper shell. The interior is in darn near perfect condition, and the exterior is close, except for a few minor paint chips. I've heard the transmissions tend to give problems in these vehicles, but this one had the tranny replaced 4 mo's ago.
Anything I should be aware of about these vehicles before I put down my money on one? The asking price is $5K. This sound like a reasonable deal?

Message: Sounds like a good deal. My 95 has 82k and is a 4x4 but the book value is over 13k so the price is right on yours.
If it checks out mechanically, I would take it. Get the warranty paperwork for the tranny rebuild though for insurance.

Message: I just bought a 96' Dodge Dakota with 41k mile on it. It was in mint condition. I only paid $4995 for it. It was a great deal though. It had nothing wrong with it. Here are some details below:
96' Magnum V6
ext. cab sport

Message: I have almost the exact same truck with the only difference being I have the 4X4 version and love it. I got it 4 years ago and the only problem I had was the pressure relief valve on the A/C blew oil and freon all over the engine compartment, got it fixed under the extended warranty that I got when I bought the truck. If your mechanic finds nothing wrong HAPPY TRUCKIN.

Message: My '93 CC V6 AT has over 145K and never had any tranny problems. Had to change the Water pump once
Oil chg every 3K - still getting 19.7 mpg every week
A good investment IMO

Message: Thanks for the input!
I just got back from the mechanic with the vehicle, and there were a couple of fairly minor things found, but no show-stoppers (no 9 year old truck is going to be in perfect shape!). Looks like everything is set to finalize the deal this afternoon :).
