I love to detail clean my Dakota, don't ask why I don't know, it is just an interest. I have a little detail thing on the side for extra money I called "SHININ' LIKE A DIAMOND®" CAR WASH. I was wondering if anyone likes doing this kind of stuff too and might have any misc. tips they might would like to pass on. Just ANYTHING It doesn't matter. Just post 'em.

Well, my 2001 DAK QC isn't even two weeks old, but to keep all that darn pollen off of the beautiful bright Flame Red paint job (truck is always parked outside), I dust it 2-3 times a day with a California car brush I've had since the mid-90s (they claim the dirtier it gets, the better it works)....takes all the dust off without leaving scratches.
To date, have bucket washed (no hose) the truck with warm water using a clear-coat safe soft auto sponge and dry with a chamois.
With the 2nd bucket wash, I added just a bit of clear-coat safe liguid wax to the warm water in the bucket (diluted the wax quite a bit)
For you detailing experts, at what point in your new truck's life, did your starting doing a normal hose and soap wash?
I'm a firm believer in using only a chamois for drying, no towels, no matter how soft.
BTW, I'm told red fades the quickest when always parked out in the sun, wax alot right, when should I first wax my new paint job, and how often without ruining that paint job?

Detailing my Black 2000 is always fun for me. I use nothing but Meguiars products and have always been beyond happy with the outcome. If you go to their website you can get a "paint care perscription" just ansewer a few questions about the vehicle and how its treated and they will email you a "perscription" within a few minutes based on what you entered. I will be trying their Medallion line as soon as it warm up a little here. All the products i use can be found under the professional line. After washing and between waxes i use the "final inspection" and it really makes the black paint shine.

I've been told that chamois leaves swirl smarks. They don't have as thick of a nap as a cotton towel and don't pick up as much fine dirt as the towels do.

The directions for my chamios say to use it wet and pull towards you when drying, not in a swirling motion...no marks to date.
However, I'd be willing to try a brand new soft bath towel for drying and compare the results.
BTW, a chamois does a excellent job of drying the windows streakfree.
FWIW, my 5 star dealer's detail department only uses a chamois when prepping new vehicles.

I clean and detail my truck all the time and it is fun. I have found that the best looking wax is Eagle One.

I used to use a chamois but now I use a synthetic product called The Absorber. Looks like and is used just like a chamois but it absorbs a ton of water. It feels as soft as a chamois and is used wet. It works fantastic and really makes for quick drying. It's only about 10 bucks to boot and comes in about 6 colors.

I just washed my new truck and dried it with a new bath towel to compare drying -vs- a chamois, while it appears to do just as good a job, with the towel, my california brush doesn't glide as easy over the paint as with using a chamois...not sure it this is good are bad...
