Subject: Vortex??? IP: Logged
Message: Just got my catback duals and love it! The local muffler shop did a great job of custom bending it and it sounds terrific. Don't know if any hp gains, doubt it. Does anyone know anything about these Vortex mufflers? They seem real solid and sound nice. Any bad experiences with them? How long can I expect an aluminized system to last?

Message: I had one done in 1996 and its till running strong. The mufflers crapped out and the elements in the cat dropped so I had those replaced. The chrome tips are a little rusty. I guess the lacquer wore off a bit. The pipes are all good though. 7 years.

Message: I got it done at the local Meineke and it cost $300. The muffler was $150 and the tail pipes were about $50. The rest was labor and miscellanious stuff. He only got me for 1 hour of labor which I thought was alright. I think I could have done it cheaper but it's a first rate job and I'm real happy with it.

Message: KovzR6,
That's an outrageous price. Where are you, man? Here in the big city I got quoted $100.00 for the same circumstances.
Try phoning around different places. Some of the smaller shops/biker coke dealers are really out to lunch.

Message: I had straights behind the cats with nice 2.5" tips put on for $150..
Im pretty sure you want to keep it down to one pipe for back pressure reasons , but i could be wrong...
Any suggestions on exhaust or tech tips for what's best for making power?

Message: Yeah I know it was a lot of money. If my girl friend finds out how much she'll divorce me! (maybe I SHOULD tell her) What does a Flowmaster go for? Labor was $75 an hour here in Connecticut. The Vortex seemed like a real well built muffler.

Message: im in windsor ontario canada.
i went to 2 diff shops i would supply the Flowmaster single in/dual out, and the tips.
thye would just have to bend and mount and weld the tips on. both shops quoted me $400+tax. which is $460, or $290 USD
the flowmaster is $135, the tips would be about $60, and $460 for the bending/mounting. thats a total of $655 CND. which is about $420 USD.
thats way too much. im just going to drop in Flow 40 inplace of the stock muffler
