Message: I own a 2wd extended cab 1990 Dodge Dakota with the 3.9 liter engine. The transmission is pretty much toast and in need of and overhaul. I will have no problem with the overhaul but the problem is that there are five different types of transmissions that were made for this truck and I don't know how to tell which one it is. If you can tell me if there is a number on it somewhere or how I can find out which one it is I would really appreciate it.

Message: Just look for a part number on the tranny, may have to wash off the grease and dirt. I believe I found the number on my 92 Dakota near the rear tranny mount. But take the VIN to the dealership and they should be able to tell you.
Hope this helps
Dan
