Subject: Evap System... IP: Logged
Message: The CEL light came on giving code P0455 saying there is a leak in the Evap system. Replaced the gas cap, but light is still on, where and how do you check to see if the valve is opening and closing properly? What other things can cause this and is it safe to drive 400+ miles before I take a look at it? (currently 400 miles from home where I have access to a garage and tools). Thanks

Message: I crushed my evap tank, and drove on it for a week around christmas time.
it is basicaly a plastic tank under your driver door bolted to the frame that all your fuel overflow hoses go to.
Mine was visibly damaged and easy to fix.
about $90 from dealer.
the system is presurized. that is why they say to replace the gas cap.
I would not worry about it.
If it makes you feel better don't fill the fule tank all the way full.
good luck.

Message: Yeah that what i figured, the check engine light is annoying. I havent tried resetting it since like i said, i am not at home. I have heard of this code just spontaneously coming on and after a computer reset will in some cases stay off. What I'm wondering is exactly what are the components that could have failed with this code? The hoses look fine.

Message: Hey thanks a lot Dakotadan! So, now I guess I have 2 options as to what is wrong. Either the charcoal canister is messed up (I dont understand how that would happen) or the purge solenoid is not working. Is there a way to actually see the operation of the valve when giving it power? I'm assuming the valve is inside the cylidricle piece.
