Message: Are the Edelbrock valve covers tall enough for 1.7 rollers? I saw a pair on JEG's for $35 will these work? Also what about the Moroso budget series would these work also. They list the type of engine size for ex. Chrysler 273-360, I am asuming that the valve covers will fit engine sizes between 273ci to 360ci is this correct. Thanks

Message: YEs the Edelbrock covers will clear. I have talked with a number of Dakota owners, and they assure me that moroso covers will also fit. Just need to use a little more sealant to insure a good seal since they only have 5 mount holes vs. ten.

Message: Somebody sells modified stock 3.9 covers for 1.7 rockers. I've seen them on a website referred to in discussions on this site, but for some reason I can't figure out which website. I'll keep my eyes peeled and post it if I figure it out. Stock covers are cool because of the extra bolts and they're more "sleeper" (less clues for the smog check guys too). Be careful to make the stock springs are good for this. I'd call Speadtweaks or KRC before doing this; They have so much experience with the V6.
This a great modification! Back in my corvette days, a great package was 1.7s, exhaust, intake, & TB. Great reliable docile power for the money! I'm sure the same works for the Dakota. We changed the vette's valve springs because it was easy to float them. Also several people broke valve springs, which turned loose metal loose in the motor. It usually ended up in another valve spring and broke that one too. The higher you rev the the more you need to worry about this. Truck owners shouldn't be as rev happy are corvette owners (some are though!).
I may do this mod too! But I'm really trying not to fall into the same sickness I had with the vette. One thing lead to the next and 3 engines later I had a calais crank, JE pistons, AFR heads, 6"Carillo Rods, T&D roller shaft rockers, MiniRam injection, and more...... 525HP 406 ci chevy mouse. With Rippie Race suspension, ii was a 12 second slot car. BUT IT WAS AN S.O.B. when it it wasn't WFO, so I eventually sold it :(
What I'm trying to say is it all started with 1.7s, intake, exhaust and a TB..........

Message: I have a 5.2 liter v-8. The edlebrock valve covers are 10 or 5 bolt? I called jegs, talked to a typical salesman. He stated Edelbrock nor Morosovalve covers would not fit on magnum engines. I stated that the only difference is 10 vs 5 bolt pattern. He then tries to sell me the $135 mopar valve covers. I said no I want Edelbrock, then he says that they are out of stock as well as the Moroso. Maybe they can hire someone with a pulse there. A corpse would have more intelligent conversation. I will wait for further response from you guys before I place my oders ON THE INTERNET. I will get what I ordered and not be told it was out of stock to get more comm$$. Thanks for the info in the last 2 post.

Message: With the Magnum aftermarket valve covers, do I need to add an oil baffle? I didn't and the breather filter is letting oil get all over my engine (like 7 qts in 1100 miles). And, the PCV is allowing oil into the intake manifold. I plugged the 2 breather filter holes temporarily by not cutting the rubber gasket on Edelbrok's low profile breather filters. I only drove the 25 mins or o this way just to make sure that it was the breather filter, and sure enough after the thing smoking for 15minutes of it, it finally stopped smoking.
It seems as if the oil is literally getting injected into the PCV and breather filter, especially at high sustained rpms (highway)

Message: I wouldn't use the five-bolt covers. Even with extra sealent. I've heard stories of bad leaks. This is also the advice I got from Marty at KRC.
This of course was on my Ram with a 360.

Message: Yup...the older-style valve covers are 5-bolt and are prone to leaking on the 10-bolt Magnum engines.
Marty (KRC Performance) makes custom/factory valve covers for the V6/V8 or you can buy the Mopar Performance covers (use the Moroso baffles) from many of the online vendors.

Message: I got the ones for the PCV so far and so far, so good. The breather on the other hand.....I had to rig up a hose and gasket deal. Pics hopefully soon. Again so far so good. If anyone has that problem, just ask and I'll be glad to assist.

did you ever stop the oil from seeping out of your PCV valve and breather elements after installing MOPAR valve covers and how. Need some expert advise. Thanks.

Message: Actually, I just put the things back on about 2 weeks ago. They were off for nearly 4 months because I couldn't stop the oil from spewing out of the breather filter and through the PCV. MY final solution was to get a small sheet of glavanized steel, similar to the kitchen stove exhaust venting found at Home Depot or Lowes. I used a piece of cardboard to make a template large enough to cover the 3 screw holes and leaving just 1/8 of an inch of breathing space next to the valve cover walls. After making the four baffles, I used self-taping screws, a washer, and a lock washer. I also used a thread lock to help hold the screws. After the install, I slightly bent the edges toward the top of the valve cover to help keep oil away.
So far so good, the biggest problem before was when the oil pressure was at anything other than idle. Now, after quite a few 30-45 mins trips on the interstate, no oil into the manifold or out of the breather filter. The only oil I saw was a small trickle down the baffle that I made, but nothing more.
Be careful in the size screw that you use, because you can split the screw holes and they would be a huge pain to fix.
I got this idea from someone on this board, I slightly modified it though.

Message: this might be a stupid question but with the edelbrock valve covers couldnt you just drill some more holes in them so you could use all ten bolts?

Message: I really don't see why you couldn't drill holes. Maybe even use the hold down tabs found in Jegs or Summit.
The work over all wasn't hard. About $12 in parts(if I remember correctly), an hour or two with the Dremel, and another 20 mins on the finishing touches.
