Subject: Dakota getting warm? IP: Logged
Message: I have recently noticed my Dakota getting warm/hot. Heres how it goes, when its at normal operating temperature while driving the needle never goes past the 2 in 210. When I stop at a stop light and sit in drive for a few minutes, it rises, and will keep going, until I slip it into neutruel and rev it slightly like the manual says. What is the problem? This cant be normal, it only has 28000 miles and is a 99 v6, with no mods.

Message: Have you checked your thermostat? It could be stuck closed or just not functioning properly.

Message: I am bring my 1999 slt v6 club cab in for service tomorrow for two issues.
1st, I have an almost impossible starting condition when the truck is cold. If I pump the gas the truck will start, but it will shut off a number of times until fully warmed up. Then it runs just fine?
2nd, the Temp. gauge is showing half way when i first start the engine & goes up to just before the red line. The thing is, the engine is not heating up. The coolant is at the correct level & the engine feels normal also. Look at whether your gauge could be giving a bad reading.

Message: The fan clutch is a viscous clutch, so unless you have seen leakage, it should be OK especially at 28K. Just take your thermostat out and drive around for awhile and see if it stays cool. If it does, get a new one - only $5 -$8. If it still heats up, you probably have a blockage somewhere and should flush the system. Both of these will be alot cheaper than throwing a fan clutch at it.
