Subject: Dakota Sport Club Cab info IP: Logged
Message: Hi All,
I'm considering purchasing a new 2001 Dakota Sport Club Cab, 4 speed auto, V6 within a few days.
A few concerns....
Durability, quality of the truck?
GAs MPG? Better than EPA sticker figures, or worse? (I commute 45 miles through a rural area, will be using cruise at 61 MPH or so...)
Any problem areas with this model?
Current vehicle is a '91 Ford F150, regular cab, short bed, 300/6 cylinder Glass cap....5 Speed....getting a bit long in the tooth, but reliable...
Bought the Ford after local dealers wouldn't budge on prices of '91 Dakotas!
I'm 6'7", test drove the Dakota today, and feel it would be comfortable.
I was hoping for somewhat better MPG than the F150....
Primary use will be personal transportation, sometimes hauling my motorcycle to the mountains, trips, etc..
Any comments?
THanks...
I like the message Boards....have found great info on them, and enthusiast BBS's!
(run one for Suzuki Bandits, myself!)

Message: THE DURABILITY IS GOOD. I CAN ACTUALLY SAY THAT I TOWED MY BEST FRIEND HOME TWO DAYS IN A ROW CAUSE HER 87 JEEP WRANGLER WITH 36'S ON IT BROKE DOWN. mY LITTLE V-6 PULLED HER RIGHT ON HOME AND I LIVE IN SOME HILLS TOO. IT HAD NO PROBLEM DOING IT. I ALSO GOT THE HEAVY DUTY PACKAGE ON MY TRUCK TOO. ITS A GOOD TRUCK.

Message: I just picked up my '01 Quad Cab 4x4. I opted for the 4.7 since there was very little difference in gas mileage (on paper) between that and the 6. I absolutely love the truck and I could not have made a better decision on choosing a vehicle. My gas mileage is averaging about 14 mpg - but it should get better after break in and once I install my bed cover.

Message: Yup LSett,
I got the 4.7 too and the mileage is dialed in now. Got about 5500 mileson it, and running Mobil1 synth. Now all I need is a tonneau cover, intake system, and an exhaust to tweak a few more miles out of it. (and horsies)

Love the truck ... Mileage is OK, I'm working on better. As far as durability, In the past me and my buisness have owned more that 2 dozen Ford F 350, F450 Superduties ,Chevy C10s & 1500s Including 3 SS 454's .... The Dodge Is A TANK compared to them, I HATE FORD's

Message: Hey Bandit I have a 2001 V6 auto CC and I love it.
I've had it since Oct'00 it has 6500 miles with no problems as of yet.
As far as the MPG I get 16-17 MPG 50/50 city/Hwy
If you can try and find one with Bucket seats go with it, much more comfortable and a huge console.
Try and find a better looking truck for under 20K!!

Message: Good luck with the Ranger. I was all set on buying an extended cab Ranger, too ... that is, until I drove the Dakota Quad Cab, felt the added power of the V8, and saw how much more room there was!
You'll probably be trading in that Ranger next year on a Dak! hehehe
Good luck anyway!
