Message: Hi, I currently a owner of a 91 LE V8 4x4 Dakota , ive owned it three years and it is rock solid and despite 137k miles looks and runs like new, anyway I have the opportunity to buy a 97 sport 4x4 V6 with similar miles and is in excelent condition for about $4,800.00, all it needs is a new exhuast, i'm really struggling with parting with my 91 but i really like the looks of the newer body style and I also know its a steal , anyone here own a 97 4x4? any problems or issues? god I'll miss that V8!!

Message: If you are already questioning getting a 6 don't do it... If you are happy with the 91 and the main reasons to step into this other truck are body style and price... stay with what you have... I have seen too many people buy a car with something that they will learn to like and later hate it...
Just my opinion.... Get it only if you TRULY want it...

Message: We recently picked up a 03, Dakota QC 4x4 and love it. It has the V6 3.9L. It has plenty of power and uses alot less gas than the bigger 4.7 or 5.9.
If you looking for serious power, I wouldn't bother getting it. These have that crappy OD, three speed tranny, which in my opinion totally sucks. I would much rather have a 5 speed tranny anyday over the over drive.
If I were you, I would keep the 91. Don't buy a used 4x4, too many problems can just pop out at ya. Save that money for either a brand new truck and trade in the 91 or just keep the 91 until she explodes hehe.

Message: Sorry to burst your bubble runamonk, but the 3.9 doesn't get any better gas mileage than the 4.7. It's just alot slower.
A 3.9 in a 4x4 QC! That sucker must accelerate like a sloth.
But, if you're happy, that's all that matters. To each his own.

Message: How many miles are on the truck? Has it been through winters (ie. road salt?). Take a close look underneath.

Message: Gee AndrewM...Does you V8 get 24 MPG? My V6 does.
If you want power the 4.7 is defintly the way to go. But if your like most, you don't use a truck for a truck, you use it for transportation. A motorized shopping cart would serve the same purpose After all, if you needed a truck, you'd buy a full sized one anyway. Its depends your needs are. Even 4 wheel'n is rough country, once its geared down, a Briggs&Stration would be enough power.

Message: run a mock,
MY 4.7 v8, HAS THE 5spd manual, and I guarantee, gets every bit as good, or better MPG than your v6. ROFLMAO
Do you really know what you're talking about?
another person trying to justify a v6 purchase, it wasn't worth it!

Message: I've had two V-6 Dakota's and didn't ever feel that they had enough power. Have a 2000 Dakota now with the 4.7 and love it. Better to spend a little more for a truck you really want than to buy it because its a deal.

Message: Hey Norm - I bought my truck because I needed a truck - Mine plows, tows and hauls. Did you know the front end of our Daks are rated for more weight than the fullsize half tons ? Or that the 4.7's mpg rating is one mpg higher than the six ? Didn't think so. And to top it off its quicker than the full size, and easier to park.
