Message: Like the title says, it's a Rolls Royce Merlin, the same used in P-51 Mustangs. 27 Liter, Twin-supercharged V-12.
Here's their page, with many more pics.

Message: If I'm not mistaken, people have been using these same Rolls Royce Merlin engines in boat racing for many many years now.

Message: You need to post the information about the prop that the 51B-51D's used. It plays an extremely important role in the top speed and performance of the aircraft.

Message: Allison Aircraft built their own version of the RR Merlin late in the WWII conflict and put in in the P 51-D, Max Hp was somewhere around 2,100 hp if I remember right, and it was also installed in the F-82 fighter plane, a siamesed P-51 with 2 fuselages and one cockpit. It was a twin engined job. The first time I saw one at first look I thought it was what they called the "fork tailed devel", a P-36 but it did not have the central cockpit pod, it used the cockpit on one side and removed the cockpit from the other. It had a top speed in level flight of around 580 mph. and was used in the early days of the Korean Conflict.
