Subject: How to Repair Paint Chips?

Hey

I have a 93 dakota and it is in good condition except the tailgate has a few paint chips, here is a picture of it.

What is the easiest way to repair these few paint chips? It really is dragging down the look of the truck.

That looks like the PC3 paint code on my former '92; electric blue, also called banzai blue. They had a peeling problem back then. You probably could get a body shop to paint the whole gate for around $100-150. Otherwise, try auto parts store that carries Dupli-color touch-up, or even some old stock at a Dodge dealer.

actually the color is PQ3, i figured i would get a touch up thing and try a small spot and see how it looks and if it looks good, do it to the rest. sound like a good idea?

Good luck finding a body shop to strip , prime , and refinish (and re-stripe & letter it , if you choose) that for $100-$150...there would be at least $75 in materials alone.

PQ3 and PC3 are the same color

Those aren`t paint "chips" , it`s the paint peeling off of the sealer coat like 01motorsport said. It was a common factory problem .The only way to fix it is to do like I said at the beginning , strip , prime , etc..

If you aren`t really picky , and just want to cover the white ares up , then you could try some touch-up paint , although sometimes that looks even worse.

i agree, it'll ususally look worse trying to fix just where it's peeles, your best bet is to go to the local body shops and just get estimates..alothough another alt. is to go to your local technical school and see if the body shop there will do it for you, usually the all you do is provide the materials and the kids will do it free, since they get to learn........on another note, what is it with our poor trucks? first it was tailgates, then front bumpers(97,98,etc), wonder whats next to start peeling.

Thats a good idea about the local technical school. a high school near by me has a auto-shop class and they take cars and do that kind of stuff. I will call them one of these days and get an estimate on that.
