Message: My 88 Dakota is loosing charge when I'm driving at normal speed. The slower I go the better it charges. I can drive until its about to go completely dead and die, I pull over and let it idle for a while and it charges fine. I'm at a loss. I've tried a recker alternator and a different regulator but I haven't got a clue. Any ideas would help, anything!!
Thanks, Mike

Message: I have exactly the same prob. w/ my '89. I changed the alternator, battery, computer, and starter. But it only charges when sitting in neutrall in the driveway. loses charge when driving down the road.
Please e-mail me if you get this message and let me know if you ever found an answer.

Message: VOLTAGE REGULATOR
it is not part of the computer, and when it goes bad that is one of the two symtoms they have. the other is the volt meter shows a constant discharge.

Please show me where you found the the voltage regulator is not in the computer. This link above says that all gas-powered dodge trucks have the regulator in the computer from '89 on up. also, I looked for it under the hood and can't find it anywhere. if you know where it is, please tell me.
