How much weight do you save over stock? I think I'd just go with a good ol' shaker or ram air glass first....

WE didnt make it for the look, we made it for the weight reduction and functionality.. It shaves almost 30 lbs over the stocker.. and IT CAN BE PAINTED TO MATCH, thus the option to ordered one alreay primered.
You cant get a Reflexxion for anywhere near 200.00, Ill gaurentee that.
Also the reflexxion doesnt have the functional sealed airbox that we have..

Message: The purpose of a carbon fiber hood is weight reduction. Take 30 lbs off with the hood. Then (let's assume someone actually made stock-looking fiberglass fenders) you take off 100 lbs for both fiberglass fenders. Then (assuming someone would make us a carbon fiber front bumper) remove about 50 more lbs from the front bumper. Then remove about 30 lbs by running a smaller 12v battery (or just move it to the bed).
Now, you've removed a theortical +/- 200 lbs from your 4100 lb truck and it now weighs 3900 lbs. A 3900 lb truck handles better and is faster and gets better gas mileage than a 4200 lb truck.
Period.
See how this works? The old muscle cars from Chrysler were sometimes stripped down to the unibody and then dipped in acid at an aircraft plant. Then the acid was neutralized, they car was reassembled and often weighed up to 700 lbs less than when they started. Hmm.... 7 tenths is a nice gain, if you ask me.

I just can't get into taking a perfectly good truck and turning it into a car, or better yet a 1 ton dually into a street racer (what is that about???). I admire the spirit, and obviously the work & craftsmenship too, but to me it doesn't make seennnsssseee...

Message: Carbon Fiber is stronger and lighter than steel though. I'd feel pretty comfortable running one. You'd get more power to your rear wheels as well.
If anyone knows the exact dimensions for a stock driveshaft ('00 2wd CC, I think its a two piece)or where I can find the dimensions i'd appreciate it. I'd measure myself but I fear that I wouldn't be as exact.

I don't like the look at all. I think it could of been done better in the design department. The Cowl induction is too "Chevy" looking.
I appreciate the weight savings, but looks are important too(do you want an ugly looking ligtweight woman/man?).
I suggest changing the design. I think a carbon fiber Shaker or flat black fiber glass hood would look better(like the 70-71 AAR Cuda)and also be lightweight. Carbon Fiber can't be much lighter than fiber glass anyway.
Add a Carbon Fiber front end and fenders like suggested above, then you will have one but ugly light truck. It will have to be superfast so know one will have to look at it for long. Hopefully people that purchase it for weight savings will paint it.The Cowl Induction should be left for the Chevy's.

Message: maybe if you had visited elitecustoms.com and looked at the GTS fiberglass hood, which happens to have been modeled after the AAR CUDA, DAMMIT, then you'd prolly quit your bitching about Chevy's.
CThomp, the carbon fiber is great, but, it has to butt up to some yokes for some u-joints, and I KNOW that those aren't carbon fiber. How are those joined? And how much rotational shock can they withstand? I'm talkin about 4100 lbs cutting 1.92 short times at the drag strip with 3.55 gears.... that kinda shock loads.

Message: Last time I checked the fiberglass hoods for these trucks tipped the scales around 50lbs, carbon fiber is MUCH lighter. As for strength, CF has 10x the tensile strength of steel. Cutting 50~80lbs off the front of the truck will really help dragstrip times. Toss the battery in the back of the bed on the passanger side will help cut the weight as well.
"I just can't get into taking a perfectly good truck and turning it into a car"
I think when Jonas made these he aimed them at the Dakota R/T guys. R/T has always carried the meaning Road and Track so the truck is made for running on the streets and dragging on the track. Seeing as how the stock R/T has a higher slalom trap the 5-series BMW, those trucks were designed to perform like a car.

Message: alex: Yes, I know about the GTS hood (Its made out of steel). My point about the AAR style hood was that it should be done in fiberglass or carbon fiber and painted flat black for the retro style and weight savings.... Same goes for the Shaker hood (yes I know they already exist in fiberglass). Check out my Cuda...to get an idea of what I mean.

I just despise the Chevy cowl induction style. And, you have to admit that the carbon fiber hood looks butt ugly on that green Dakota.

I see I am not the only one with that opinion. Check the other reactions to this post: "barf" "PUKE... "It just looks out of place on these trucks",
What's next, A tailpipe with more cubic inches than the motor to complete the ricer look?? God help you.

Nice looking flames
We started the mold for the bumper today. Expect the first one to be on a truck in 2-3 weeks.
The bumper is going to be made just like the stock one. Then you can use the stock plastic lower, or use a after-market cover like the stillen or street scene gen 1 or gen 2.
We are also making the brackets from aluminum to shave even more weight..
dkota_rt, The GTS is made from fiberglass.. not steel. Our design uses a angled slope on the sides, and has a radial beginning so it is nothin like any chevy cowl, except that it is a cowl.
Take a look at the new Ram, and the new trucks coming from dodge, they will all have cowls from the factory.

I still don't agree with the design/style of the Cowl induction hoods or carbon fiber look for the Dodge vehicles. I have'nt seen any performance Dodge vehicles designed with Cowl induction from the factory and I am sure its for good reason (looks like Chevy)? Take a look at the Dodge Ram SRT-10. That's what a call a hood!!!

Message: Uhhhhh, it's for a WEIGHT SAVINGS. I'm having mine painted to look basically stock. And no, I'm not painting my hood flat black to look "retro". I want my truck to be understated, but have enough subtle clues about it that it pique's your interest. After the hood is painted - nobody will be able to tell it's CF at all. The raised portion doesn't look anything like a chevy cowl, especially the way the raised portion is narrower in the front.
A bit of weight reduction - especially in strategic locations should help my truck a bunch. I'm going to get the new front bumper also.

These sites manufacture and sell carbon fiber driveshafts. They already put them on corvette's, racecars, monster trucks, etc.
The connections are usually made of aluminum. The rotation shock is a question they'll have to answer.

You got me there.... last I saw CF driveshafts were for street rods (parade queens). If they're strapping them on monster trucks and seeing them live, then they will certainly take the load I am dishing out. Maybe I'll be able to afford a 2-piece shaft one of these days.... $$$.

Look at the mustang on the lower half of the page. That made a believer out of me!!
This is why I'd like to find some exact measurements of my driveshaft. I'd at least like to get a quote. The above company Told me once that it'd cost between $500-$900 for the shaft. Thats not to bad. The price will only get lower as they catch on. Some one gave me a very random quote over a year ago for over a $1000. The above company it out of Tampa, FL. I believe.
