Subject: Put new rear axle on '98 Dak? IP: Logged
Message: I've decided that I would like to have disc brakes on the rear of my '98 Dakota 2WD. I've read all the posts on this site re: disc brakes, looked up SSBC and a couple other conversion kits, and still think I'd like to have discs in the back. But instead of buying a conversion kit, I started wondering if it would be possible to put an axle from a new Dakota with Dodge discs on my truck. Are the axles the same other than the brake parts?
Thanks for any info.
(1998 CC Dakota, V6, Auto, home-brew intake w/K&N filter, 180-T'stat, relocated IAT, adjusted TPS, brass cap/rotor, s-bolt on airhat, xenon headlights, Flowmaster 40 delta muffler -- fast enough to get me to work and back ;-)

Message: It would be possible... and a good idea as the new trucks have larger rear rotors than the SSBC kit.. but have you priced a 9.25 complete rear axle from the dealer... it would be cheaper to buy a complete big disc kit from AP racing brakes... comes with 6 piston front calipers, 13" rotors and 4 piston out back... and your truck will stop like a viper... IMO a better idea.
