What is white smoke coming out the exhuast pipe. I tallked to my mechanic and he said it was oil somehow getting in to the valves. How much would it cost to get it fixed.

When is it happening? When you first start it, or while driving down the road? My 79 Chevy 350 did it, I replaceced the valve stem seals and unclogged the oil return holes(these were the true problem). Not that expensive, just time consuming.....i.e. one cylinder at a time.

It only did it this morning when I started it up. I drove to school and it ran fine. I was on my way home and it ran fine. It only did it when I started it up. I don't know, I hope it just did it that one time.

Is it really smoke or just some water in the exhaust being burnt off like every other car on the planet? Is it cold when the truck "smokes"?

It does it when I start it up in the mornings. So yes it is slightly cold. What do you think? I don't think it is just some water though.

If the smoke happens on cold mornings when you start it up for the first time and it goes away ina few block of driving its water, nothing to worry about

No, I know it's not just water. There is a difference between "CONDENSATION" and "WHITE PUFFS" OF SMOKE. On cold mornings all cars blow out condensation that "disapates" into the air. The white smoke I'm talkin' about looks like CIGERETTE smoke. I know what you are talkin' about but this is different from condensation. This smoke doesn't just disapate into the air, it lingers around and just floats away like blue smoke when your truck is burning oil, except it is white, not like "blue oil burning" smoke. It might be my valves or possibly my piston rings. Either way, how much $$$ will it cost to fix it. (Estimate)
Thanks For your Concern

Does this white smoke smell sweet? If it smells sweet and is white it could be coolant. If it was blueish white it could be oil. If it is oil I would not sweat it too much if this was a one time deal. You may have had a stuck ring or a stuck pcv.If it continues to happen I would do a compression check and would visualy inspect the valve train by removeing the valve covers. I would also check all of the fluids and your spark plugs.

I think my camry is fine. Its done 70,000 Kms and in the mornings I see a billow of un explained smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. This happens for about 5 seconds and there after water vapour and water dripping. Is this normal? This engine was parked unused for nearly three months. Is there any remedy for ths situation?

Here it can get 45 below > Any temp. from about plus 10 down can cause white smoke > How much depends on the humidity > when 30 or 40 below it can be so thick you can barely make out the car doing it at a light > Most likely this was your situation that morning

So many problems > So little time
