Subject: Dist cap/rotor HELP HELP.. IP: Logged
Message: I got a new brass cap and rotor. So I go out to try to replace it today. Got the cap off fine. BUT the ROTOR WILL NOT COME OFF.
I tried to pry it off, and muscle it off. But that sucker is not commen off. Is there a trick? My 1990 dak is a V6 2wd.
Help me out here. Thanks

Message: i just installed a new rotor and cap on my 97 5.2L v8. really tight place to work, but the rotor came off fine, all i did was pull straight up on it. tomorrow i will order some JBA red wires for 50 bucks. hope this helps

Message: Yeah, thats what I expected too. But the darn thing is on there. I looked in my chiltons manual and etc. and they mentioned might having to pry it off. Thanks for the help.
Any other suggestions?

It should pry off. Use a wide blade( screwdriver) and pry carefully from below. Use something to cushion the screwdriver from the distributor base, so you don't 'nick' anything.
Rotate it slightly and slowly pry.
Should work......

Message: Thanks man. I finally got it off earlier. I ended up taking a 3/4 in wrench and prying it off the dist shaft. But man it was on there. When I inspected it, it was bad. All the terminals were green. It looked like the rotor end had been rubbing the caps top for a while.
So all in all, It has helped my responce and stuff. Thanks for the help.
