Does anyone have the billet gas cap installed? Is there a gasket behind the mounting flange? Anything you don't like about it? I would like to get one, but I would like it black anodized. Anyone see one like this yet?

No gasket shipped nor required.

I have the billet aluminum model and like it a lot - haven't had a single problem since I installed it. The new inexpensive model is cast alloy but it's made by the same manufacturer.

Could someone post some info on who offers the gas doors? I saw some reference to a Mopar gas door also? Some prices, details, etc. would be appreciated. There was a group buy a while ago for these from the source that made them. Could someone e-mail the contact information?

Thanks,
scott

There are a couple of companies that make billet fuel doors for the Dodge Dakota, but only one really makes a good product - AMP Research (www.amp-research.com). The others are truly cheap junk that isn't even worth considering.

AMP Research makes two different fuel doors for the Dakota/Ram:

Model #1: Made of billet aluminum, with a brushed finish. The door is circular in shape and smooth on the inside. This is the door that a bunch of us bought with a group buy about a year ago. Retails for $145 but can be found cheaper at www.elitecustoms.com or occasionally on E-Bay.

Model #2: Made of cast alloy, with a brushed finish. This door is kind of square with rounded corners, and has a big cross-hatch (+) with a Ram's head on the inside. Retails for about $60 and is sold via Mopar parts counters, and also have been seen frequently on E-Bay.

Both doors are only produced with a brushed finish. If you want a polished, anodized, or painted door, you will have to arrange to have this finish done after purchase by a separate company - a number of people in the original group buy had their doors painted or anodized after the fact, I think the average cost was about $40 to have this done.
