Message:
I just removed my cat on my 4.7L. I have a Ravin exhaust and it sounds bad ass. It isn't to loud that cops will bug me and I noticed a little bit of a power increase. Anybody who is thinking of doing this should!!

Oh ok...so I should get a magnaflow and a z-tube (two popular things) but I shouldn't fix the REAL bottleneck of the system and cut the 3rd cat (because it isn't popular). No offense but have you done this to a 4.7 engine yourself? If so does that make it stupid because you don't like it? Just curious...not intending to start a flame.

Why not remove it if you are in a location that doesn't recquire emissions testing?

it doesnt matter if we like it or not. Its ILLEGAL. Personally I hope you get caught. There are plenty of ways to add power to your vehicle and still be legal. its people like you that make it harder on everyone else. Yeah screw the enviroment who cares if I add to the pollution. I bet you also throw trash out the window too. But then again what do you care. youre too important.

You guys are full of sh!t. It's not even enforced in most states. Most police turn a blind eye towards this VERY common practice. And where did you get the $2500 fine from? There's a fine listed for shops that remove them illegally, but not for individuals (not listed anywhere on EPA site).

Im not a tree hugger but Im not going to sit here and pollute the enviroment just because I need the extra 2 HP removing the cat gives me. You can gain HP by adding a high flow cat and still be legal thats all i was trying to say. A buddy of mine removed the cat on his dakota and he lost low end power. There have been many tests done which prove removal of a cat does nothing for HP gains or very minimal. I dont sit here and hug the planet but neither am I willing to help damage it. You probably wont get caught in a million years but if things go the way they are youll see a lot more states doing more complete smog checks on vehicles. I jsut dont think its worth the possibility of getting caught ( besides having your truck spew out crap like a 1974 ford) and if you can get a higher flow cat installed and be legal why not do that instead of cutting out existing emmisions parts? there are plenty of ways to make power without resorting to illegal things. I dotn agree with a lot of laws but some of them make sense Say what you will but thats my opinion on the subject.

Like I said, aѕѕhole... I have already removed mine and lost tons of torque by doing so. I KNOW THIS FROM MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, NOT THE "HE SAID THIS, I HEARD THAT" CRAP. That's why I put a high-flow back on. Ever heard of backpressure? You can go back to hiding now, twerp.

yeah, the cats add backpressure, but its more torque. By definition, torque is what accelerates a vehicle and horsepower is what carries it to top speed. Drag races and stoplight wars are won with torque. If you want to go faster, leave the cat on. If your that worried, go get a high flow. Then you can brag to your buddies that your truck is faster and smog legal!

Yeah, Cat's give more backpressure, and it gives you a little more torque. My buddy sent me this page in an email, and I gotta wonder....It's just a cat! I'm a preformance mechanic in New Orleans. People are looking for 2 things....#1 Will my $hit sound badass without sounding like a rice rocket with a fart tube and #2 Will I be able to bury my needle on stright quiet roads. All you guys whining about "polluting the enviorment" Think about this. It doesn't matter if you cry on this forum or not, it's always gonna be there. There is a possibility of a neuclear attact and your worried about exhause fumes!? Jesus! If you want yours (or all 3) on, or you want to get a "preformance cat" thats fine. But don't bitch at people because they want to loose theirs I don't have a Dakota, I don't even have a Dodge! I have a 93 Chevy Blazer. You think I have a cat on it? Hell no! I run 15.1 in a quarter with a 4.3 v6 with nothing but bolt on parts (no NOS). If a cat will shave a few tenths off of my quarter mile time, I don't care. I like my truck the way it is and the way it sounds. Well, I guess that is my 2 cents worth. Yeah, I know, those are some big pennies
Later ya'll
