Just got my 2001 Quad Cab last week ( 4 weeks almost to the day for special order ). I had seen somewhere that there was a problem with the rear ends being shifted to one side. Sure enough mine has it. My right side wheel sticks out about an inch further. Has anyone had this actually fixed ? The truck runs down the road straight, it's just a looks thing.

Mriswith-I think you will find that all Dakotas are like this,mine is and does not seem to cause any problems and I dont think that dodge is about to do anything about it.My advise is forget about it, it will only spoil your enjoyable new truck experience. And we all know enjoyable shit can be hard to find!!

mine is not like this, it looks even on both sides. I cant beleve you are going to drop 20k on a truck and not be picky about it expicially a tire that stickes out on one side and is tucked in on the other side. Thay must look like ass! why dont you take it back to see what the dealer says about it? They will probably say its normal, but thats a bunch of crap. If you would have told the dealer to fix it before you signed the papers for it, you would have more of an advantage scence they would want to make the sale.

i don't have a new dakota, i am the proud owner of a '93 5.2L but i think an inch is a lot when you're talking about a wheel sticking out, i agree with phat dak, take it back to the dealer and see what they say and don't leave until you're satisfied...before you go in, check out the other dakota on the lot and then take him out to see them, so he'll look like the ass when you tell him its not all that common...

Thanks for the replies. It's a Black 2WD with the 4.7,auto trans, 3.92 rear end w/ limited slip. I take it back to the dealer tomorrow to look that now that the bed's on straight. I've had it in once already to have bed lined up correctly. My only real concern is rock chips out the bed's rear quarter panel since I didn't pop for the mud flaps.
The local dealership has been very helpful since I haven't filled out the survey for their 5 Star Rating yet. I pointed out the axle thing when I showed them the bed alignment. I have already planned on living with the axle thing but maybe I can score some mud flaps and/or fender flares ;)

I brought my truck in today to have the bed aligned and the stereo amp replaced (def since day one). My bed sat evenly over the axle (tires stick out the same on each side). However the bed looked off center from the cab. One side was about 3/4 of an inch off from the other. Initially the dealer told me no problem he would have it lined up at a body shop and not to worry. Well I didn't pick up the truck yet (had to work late) but the service manager called me to tell me that it turned out that the bed was aligned right but according to him the CAB was slightly off center. He said the truck is lined up properly now and good to go. I am picking it up tomorrow AM and I will let you know how it looks.

When they "realigned" my bed, what they actually did was align the cab to the bed. The body shop guys said they couldn't adjust the bed. Luckily the guy who did is a perfectionist and did a good job on it. They also said, and showed me today when I took it in, that my wheels are centered to the seams underneath the bed. It might the bed's side panels themsevles. The passenger side might just have less 'flare' than the drivers side.
The truck still looks sweet and it's not that noticable. Now if I can just keep from trying to bake those Goodyear Eagles !
