Subject: Jeep and Durango the same? IP: Logged
Message: I know they are similar and share alot of parts since they are both DC products -
... BUT are they built on the same frame? or is the Jeep Uni-body now?
I'm in debate over which is the better vehicle with someone and think it's a mute point other than styling since they share so many parts (engine, tranny and so on).

Message: I'm assuming you're referring to the Grand Cherokee and no, they are not. They share engines and trannys but it pretty much stops there. The Jeeps are all "J" bodies, hence TJ, XJ, ZJ. Jeep is more unique to DCX than Chrysler and the former Plymouth. However, as you probably know, the Durango and the Dakota (DN and AN) are the same platform family and have a lot in common.

Message: My suggestion is they are different vehicles. The Dakota and Durango share a common frame (along with drivetrain) and the sheetmetal is (pretty much) identical from the front bumper to the rear of the front door.
I can't see the Jeep being that common to the Dakota/Durango truck beyond powertrain components and parent companies.
But then again, I don't know any specifics of the Jeep...
