So about 2 weeks ago I was driving on the interstate with cruise on and the Check Engine Light came on. I was doing about 72 in mid-state Illinois so there are no heavy grade changes when the light came on. Now, I wasn't too worried about it because my truck has 52,000 miles on it so I figured that it was probably an O2 sensor but when I was driving on the same interstate a few days ago I was noticing that my engine didn't have any power. Near Peoria there are a few nice hills and my truck was having some trouble going up it so I hit the gas to help it out and I noticed the pedal was to the floor and I was still decelerating. My engine was running at about 3,500-3,700 rpm but I just couldn't go. Then the light started flashing and I shut off cruise but I smelled some sort of rubber heating up or even oil burning. I thought that it may have been my transmission because it seemed like it wouldn't shift. So I checked my fluid and it was fine but then I decided to accelerate from zero at full throttle and see what will happen. When I did that it felt slow but when I got to 4,000 rpm the needle stuck and the engine just revved without shifting until I took my foot off of the gas and the rpm's dropped. Now, I don't know what it could be I haven't had any problems with it before and I'd get it checked out when I go home for Spring Break. But I was just wondering if anyone knows what the problem could be. Also, my truck is a '99 3.9L with no mods (outside of a K&N filter), auto and 2x4.

Thanks Mark!!!

Stop by AutoZone and let them pull the codes from the PCM then look them up at.

A flashing check engine lite means that you are harming the cat and further operation of the vehicle is not recommended (read "you are gonna melt the cat down") I'm thinking that you have some sort of incorrect air/fuel thing happening due to output/input sensor failure.

Well, I plan to go to AutoZone tomorrow so they can pull my codes for me so I know what I am getting myself into.
As for the blinking light it stopped shortly after it started but nontheless it ain't good. As for that article I was wondering where it was at. I looked around here a bit but couldn't find anything. If I missed it or if it's somewhere else can you send me the link?

Thanks!
Mark
