Message: You need a tuner and an antenna. Then subscribe monthly to service at www.siriusradio.com I think.

Message: I personally balk at paying for radio. You already PAY for cable TV, Sattelite TV, Internet service, Phone service, Mobile Phone service, etc, etc, radio is the only free thing left I believe. If the capitalists have their way tho we'll have to pay for everything! And we're not far from it. I say as consumers REVOLT!! The rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting fcked!.......but thats just my grumpy old man opinion...

Message: True Jake, but it is really nice if you can, and are willing, to pay for it. I am guessing that a dodgedakotas.com revolt against satellite radio will not change much.

Message: Ah yes, radio that works where I live. How
sweet it would be
There is "radio" out here but it's not very good.
Foothills surround the area where I live so the
reception is poor at best and less than poor
with the Dodge CD player/radio.
I've seen a Sirus satellite system at the Dodge
web site (accessories) and wondered if
anyone knows if this system is backwards
compatible to 2001 Dakotas. Pictures and
descriptions at the Dodge web site leave a lot
to be desired.

Message: I have XM and love it. 100 channels of whatever I want to listen to. I don't have cable TV, so XM makes up for that expense. It's $9.95 a month, but XM does have ads on some stations. The broadcast stations in my area suck, so it is almost a "must have" around here. You won't be dissapointed no matter what company you end up choosing.

Message: The idea that local stations aren't available is
a problem.
I live in the Los Angeles area and it's really
important to me to get the traffic reports. The
shoot-out reports, hi-speed chase reports and
weather reports are nice but traffic is a must.
I seem to remember that receiving local
broadcasts on satellite T.V. was once a
problem but I think that got fixed. Maybe
satellite radio will get fixed too.
I'm going to contact my Dodge dealer to find
out if the dealer installed Sirus system for 03’
Dakota's will work with prior year models. I’ll
post what I find out.

Message: I have an '04 standard AM/FM radio with single CD player. I don't believe I have the Sirius compatible radio but it looks exactly like the one in the Dodge/Mopar accessories catalog. When I hold down the 'Mode' button, I don't get the "Satellite" display on my radio. I don't want to purchase and install a new unit if I don't have to, although I do know I'll need the antenna and the other thing that recieves the signal. Any ideas/suggestions?

Message: It's true they don't have local stations, but they do have traffic reports for every city that needs a traffic report. I've found it's a lot better then the local stations traffic reports too. Sirius and Daimler Chrysler are in cahoots. They offer tuners, receivers, and antenna's for our vehicles, you don't have to replace the stock unit. I did replace the stock unit because I wanted an upgrade. I love sirius, I hated XM. With sirius you can stream it from any computer with internet connection. They have the NFL, they are working on MLB, I prefer the music better then XM's music. They also just signed howard stern.

Message: Jeremy,
I totally agree with you.
I was on the Mopar website and they have the Receiver and Antenna Kit for $175. They also mention that there is an install kit for $124. That sounds like a lot since the guys at Best Buy have a dashboard mount unit for $149 (plus $40 for install) that you can take out and use in your home (home cradle kit extra). But I was looking to do the least amount of tweaking my truck as possible. Your thoughts?

Message: Well that's up to you. I think the in home/dash kits at best buy look awful. If you disagree or don't mind then get that. I have a Kenwood in dash receiver that replaced my stock one. I'm not sure what the install kit from mopar includes. If it isn't necessary then I'd get the mopar receiver for $175.

Message: If you drive alot or listen to the radio alot, then XM and Sirius are good choices. They have alot of channels to chose from, always something on. And as stated above, no commercials.
I have a friend that has XM, he loves it. I've gone on some long trips and it was nice to always know that no matter what small town you're flying through, there is always good music to listen to.
and for those that care, in a couple of years howard stern will only be available on Sirius.

Message: It's less then a year and a half for stern on sirius. You don't have to be in your car to enjoy sirius. As I said earlier web streaming is free for subscribers. Both companies offer a portable boom box so neither are limited to the car. Maybe you should read earlier posts.
