Question: I have 43000 miles on my RT and I'm experiancing problems shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. It's shifting about 500-700RPM higher than normal. Higher the more you step on it. Also, it does not shift into second gear when shifting manually. Any ideas?

Also, a clunking noise from the front end when making turns over bumps at slow speeds especially right turns. Any insight would he helpful.

dunno, someone who does might help..

but, sounds like a selenoid in your auto tranny for the shift prob.

and a bad ball joint for the clunk, hope your wheel don't fall off!

I've had transmission problems in the past with my 89 Shelby Dak. Replaced the trans after only 60K!!!

The clunking seems to be a common problem. Has anyone had their ball joints replaced and if so did it fix the problem and how much was the cost of repair???

Steve,

Had simlar problem with noises on my 01 QC. Dealer replaced steering rack and coupler (and something to do with a torsion bar) and problem went away.

Thanks for the info. I had it into the dealer last year for the problem and they just lubbed up the front end. Didn't fix a thing. Now my warrenty is up and am probably looking at a significant repair bill. Did they diagnose your problem quickly? Was the repair astronomical?

Ah yes, the torsion bar mounts. That is what finally stopped the noise.

Can't help with cost estimate - fortunately I was still under warratny.

your gonna have to rebuild your clutch packs in that tranny real soon as the increase in rpm before a shift is a sure sign the 1st gear pack is slipping.
