Subject: paint on front bumber IP: Logged
Message: i was just curious as to how many people have had problems with the paint on the metal part of the front bumber, unfortunately i just got the truck,97 cc sport 5.2 auto, so the corrosion warr. is long past(only good for 5 years), well the dealer told me it would only cost $150 to re-paint it.

Message: I also have a '97 Dakota and the bumper is pure rust now. No paint left on it. Dealership would not fix it and the rust warranty only covers perforation (ie. a hole). Other dealerships have fixed them out of goodwill, but none in my area. Oddly enough they went to a plastic cover over the bumper in later years. Best advice is to buy an aftermarket replacement bumper. Repainting the one you have will not solve the problem - it will rust again.

Message: Yeah, I've had the same problem on my bumper of my 99 Dak. The guys at the body shop got a lot of business from me so they painted it twice, THEN the dealership was sold. Now nobody wants to paint it! In the fall time I took it off and used Tremclad Rust Paint (high gloss black) and it's working pretty good (only one small spot). And it only cost $10!!

Message: I have a 97 kota that had the same problem. My local dealership didn't want to deal with it either. I just sanded it down, primered it and repainted it and I haven't had a problem since.
