Message: I've seen a couple of posts that say the Dakota AWD system is different than the one on the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Can anyone clarify this? I've not been able to find any info about this on the Net.
Thanks,
Greg

Message: Nice link Biljak but it does not answer Greg's question. I have both an AWD Dakota and a Jeep GC with the QuadraDrive. There is a significant difference in the 2 systems. The link above gives a good explanation of the Dakota system. Pretty simple in AWD mode it is a series of open differentials unless you have rear LSD. By contrast the Jeep system will direct the power to any combination of wheels with traction through a limited slip system at all the differentials. There is a more detailed explanation of the system at the Dana Hydra-Lok technology. See link below, http://www.dana.com/tractiontechnologies/products/differentials.htm
Hope that helps, JP
