Subject: Help my new wheels rub IP: Logged
Message: Hi I own a 93 dakota 2wd and recently put a set of wheels off of a 98 durango on it. It looks great but the new wheels are wider and they rub on the upper control arm when I turn or hit a bump in a turn. I have ground on the uc arm as much as I dare and improved it but I really need to lower the uc arm about 1/2 inch to make it clear. Any ideas woud be appreciated.

Message: After using the search function on this forum, I have found that you will need to either:
A. Grind about 1/4" off of the upper control arm, along with about 1/2" off the spindles so the center caps will fit.
B. Have a machine shop make you a couple of 5/16" wheel spacers and they fit perfect. Apparently nobody makes wheel spacers that will fit, so don't bother looking.

Message: Hey thanks for the responses. I have already ground as much as I really dare off of the control arm and they still rub on turns. I dont understand what you mean by grinding on the spindle. Should I grind on the face where it meets the wheel? It seems like I have more than a 1/4" worth of bearing cap sticking out so I dont see how that will work. As far as the wheel spacers I already thought of that but I didnt know how wide to make them. Thanks for the help.
