Subject: getting out of a lease IP: Logged
Message: I've got a '03 QC that I like very much, but looks like my job is gonna change here and I'm gonna be making a lot less dough so I dont think I'm going to be able to keep it. Trouble is I got it on a 4 year lease. Anyone know of any tricks to getting out of a lease without costing an arm and a leg? Is the easiest way just to advertise it for someone to assume the lease?

Message: Yes, leasetrader.com is an option if someone just happens to be in the market for your vehicle and sees your listing. You might have a better chance there since your vehicle is new. I tried to sell my old truck on two internet websites, and got 1 call during the 90 day listing periods.
Other than that, your only option is to sell the truck yourself and pay off the lease, or try to find someone who can qualify to assume the lease, as you mentioned. If you really think that your job situation is going to change, you might start trying to do that now.

Message: What sucks abotu a lease is that its hard to get out of it. because youre liable for the 4 years of payments. You may want to talk to the lease company. ask them if they are willing to let you out of a lease if you make a penalty payment to them. if the truck is so new they may not ahve a problem with it especially if its a hot selling model. if its somethign that sits on lots forget it they will want the payment. What you can do is go to the dealer and see if you can turn it in for a lease on somethign cheaper. Either that or find someone who is willing to take over your lease.
if you were to sell it you would have to sell it for the total amount of your lease AND the actual value of the vehicle at the end of the lease.
By paying off the lease all youre doing is youre done paying the rent on the vehicle. there is still the Value of the vehicle to be paid. By paying off the lease only all youre doing is paying your rent. the vehicle still belongs to the lease company.

Message: Coming from friends in the insurance industry.. Fire is too easy to track... Water damage on the other hand... if it reaches the dash it is automically a total loss, and all you have to say is that you were crossing a flooded road and it was a lot deeper than you thought... OOPS...
