Message: I will try and post a few links for you when I get in. This subject has been discussed many times on the DML. I think most people end up cutting a wire or running relays or something like that. I haven't done mine yet. I have about 3 emails saved. Also, try the Dakota R/T registry, I think they have a write-up about it.

Message: Yeah, I read how to do that somewhere too. Run a jumper wire across two terminals on the back of the switch. I'll dig too and see if I can find where I read that.

Message: Niether one of those worked on my 2001. I jumped between every possible terminal. They either stayed on all the time or didn't turn on at all. When I say all the time, I mean even when the key was off and out of the truck. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Message: This is how I did mine (from the Dakota Mailing List):
FOG LAMPS ON WITH HIGH BEAMS
This is a fairly simple, 5 minute procedure. First, you must remove the black plastic dash frame. It just snaps out. Then, remove the 3 screws holding the headlight switch in and remove the switch. There are 2 connectors on the back of the switch.. A 2-wire connector and a multi-wire
connector. The 2 wire connector has a BLACK and a BLACK with GREEN STRIPE wire. Run a jumper from the BLACK with GREEN STRIPE wire in the 2 wire
connector to the LIGHT BLUE with BLACK stripe wire on the multi-wire connector. That's it! Your fog lights will come on when you turn them on
(parking lamps must be on, at least) and will stay on with low or high beams.
You may want to double check the wires that are listed here for a 2001 (they were right for my '99, but who knows what changed).
BTW, just for everyone's info, if you're looking for both the low beams and high beams on together, don't buy the relays that you find in Jeg's, Summit, etc. They don't work. Our trucks are wired differently (they actually complete the circuit on the ground side). We did install it on my friends Ford and it worked great, even keeps his fogs on with the high beams now. If anyone knows how to get both lows and highs on our trucks, please let me know.

Message: The easiest way would be to get a 5 or 10 amp
diode and hook the anode to the high-beam 12v feed
and the cathode to the low-beam 12v feed. The
diode acts as a one-way "valve", letting juice
flow to the low when the high is on but not vice
versa. The only drawbacks are that now the
high-beam wiring is handling current for both the
high and the low. I don't have a wiring diagram to
know what size the wire is but it's prolly ok. The
other drawback is that the diode will have about a
0.7 volt drop across it, but you prob wouldn't
notice it in the light output.
Another way to do it would be with an external
relay, a little more complicated, but can be done.

Message: There is a simpler method then any described so far. This is referencing the 2001 Dakota Wiring diagrams in the Service Manual.
1) Locate the Central Timer Module. It is in behind the drivers kick panel. It is a black box about 4" X 4". It has three connectors on it. C1, C2 & C3. You only need to concern yourself with C1 (top 26 pin connector) and C3 (bottom 12 pin connector.
2) Remove or cut wire from pin 22 of the C1 connector. It will be a white/tan wire.
3) Remove or cut wire from pin 8 of the C3 connector. It will be a White/Violet wire.
4) Splice these two wires together.
The modification is complete. It takes all of about 10 minutes to accomplish without any tool but a wire stripper, crimper, cutter. If you choose to remove pins instead of cutting wires this can be done also, however it requires a bit more time and effort.
The Timer Control Module controls the fog lamp relay, it also senses the high beam position of the headlamp switch. By performing this mod you are essentially bypassing control of the Fog Lamp Relay directly to the Fog Lamp Switch.
This will allow use of you fog lights on either high or low beam... This works very nicely!!

Message: I had a 2000 R/T, all I did was pull the daytime runing light module. It's just a clip snapping into module located on the driver side fender (under the hood). It'r really easy to spot, black and bolted to the side. But, you will loose your daytime running lights, and your highbeam indicator on the dash. I now dirve a 2002 4x4 and haven't figured it out yet.

Message: No need to run jumper wire(s). Just connect the relay lead wire to the first pin on your light switch. The fog lights will come on with the light switch in any position (park lights or headlights) and won't shut off when high beams are on.
