Subject: O/D (overdrive) Light Stays On IP: Logged
Message: Today, at a red light I noticed the O/D off light
came on and I couldn't deactivate it using the
button on the gear shift handle. Turned the
vehicle off and on, it stayed off for a minute
and then came back on. Still couldn't turn it off
or on. However, during the one minute or less
that it stayed off I was able to operate it using
the O/D button.
The other thing is that I am not sure if this is
just the light staying on, or is the vehicle
operating in the O/D off status. I have never
used this feature before.
This is on a 99D, 52K, and 46rte
transmission.
Thanks,
Mohmd.

Message: Do you have a MP PCM? Mine did the same thing, and was a result of a faulty PCM. The light was only the beginning! It will get MUCH worse if it is a faulty PCM.

Message: Hi -
What is the job of powertrain control module
(PCM)? I am not sure if it's an MP or not, but I
checked the Haynes manual and removal and
replacements seems to be straight forward.
What else could go wrong if it's a faulty PCM?
What should I look for?
thx,
M.

Message: MP = Mopar Performance
For me, it started doing just as you said, only when stopped. The next day, it would kick out of O/D while driving. This sucks when doing 80... Anyway, I learned to live with it. About a week later, it decided that I didn't need to downshift when stopping. That blew... Barely got it home. If that wasn't enough, it then decided that my torque converter should always be locked up. So, say, when slowing down from 3rd gear, it would stay in gear, bog, and die.
I went through this with 2 MP PCM's, and the 3rd one has worked for 4 years now. What sucks is that both of the bad PCM's ran a hell of a lot better than the one I have now.
I suggest checking your trouble codes. Here is a site that lists some of the codes:
http://www.minimopar.net/fault/index.html
Good luck.
