Our 2001 4.7L Quad Cab has 54,000 miles on it. I changed the transmission gear lube with the "Use only Mopar XXXXXXXX" at 30,000 miles. It has been making a "scratchy rumbling" noise when in neutral. Disengaging the clutch causes the noise to cease. When changing the oil this last weekend, I noticed a lubricant stain at the bottom of the bell housing. My diagnosis was input shaft bearing and front seal failure. We took it to the dealer and their diagnosis was 3 & 5 gear bearing failure. I think my diagnosis was correct.

The dealer has scheduled repair for March 3rd, and it will take 5 days, so they are supplying a rental vehicle.

I was prepared to be shrugged off and am glad they didn't. I paid dearly for an extended 6/72,000 warranty just 6 months before they extended the factory warranty to 7/100,000 and was a little put out by that.

Magnussen Dodge of Auburn, CA has never given us any grief on repairs. The truck was just $500 over invoice, a rarety here in the "California Gold Country", where I have seen asking prices in excess of $4,000 over MSRP!

heh, that's the same place I got my '02 from. Though it's a bit long of a commute for service (I live in Placerville). And I got a similar warrentee, 4 yr/75,000 mile. I've noticed a slight rumbling but attributed it to the gears turning w/ no load. Maybe I should have it checked.

And on my warrentee, if I don't use it, I get refunded.

It's basically a warrentee mainly issued to fleet customers, it ran me an extra $1500.
