Subject: Please Help No Spark IP: Logged
Message: I have no spark at sparkplugs, I have a 1996 Dakota 3.9l 2wd, 205k miles, I have replaced crank sensor, cam sensor, checked the fuses. I do not know what else too do. Does not give spark after coil for sure. I was messing around with my exhaust when this happened, and hasnt started since, might of been coincidence that it happened then, not sure. I did break a o2 sensor then. Iv also checked the auto shut don relay.
1. Can you check the sensors while engine is cranking since i cant check them running?
2. Are there any wires that I should check that corode or break easy? Possible shorts open circuits?
3. Could something of happened to the crank where sensor isnt working or something.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Message: Also the truck did have a little problem that might be related!?!? When the truck was partially to fully warmed up and I started it, it would want to die(had to keep on gas to keep it alive), but after driving it would be just fine until the next time i tried to start the truck.
Thanks

Message: Chris, If you had acess to Scan tool, a friend who has his own shop or you know someone who you could borrow it for even a minute (so you don`t have to tow it to them) you could look at wether each sensor was doing what it should and if there was a spark fault (shorted coil pack, spark control module, etc.. etc.. ) it would give you a code.... and you`d know for sure.... Your year of truck is OBD 2,...quite simple to understand and allows you to see what the trucks doing much easier then OBD 1 civers ALOT more of what your trucks doing. An example would be as your cranking then engine, w/ the scan tool view the operation of the crank sensor in "real time mode" and you`ll see the voltage go on and off in Mseconds, so you know its putting out a signal.... Normally if it doesnt start and it cranks --- theres usuallly a code to lead you in teh right direction, from there you may have to check resistances etc.. in the coil or the wiring etc.. and compare it to the factory specs.. I hope that helps you... otherwise your just gonna keep spending money, and throwing in parts you can`t return cause there electronic :(... may as well pay someone even the 25$ to check for codes (any garage will be able to tell you) ...Hope that helps
