Subject: Painting bumpers? IP: Logged
Message: I have a '03 SXT with the grey bumpers and I was wondering if any of you knew if you could paint the front and rear to body matching?
My friend said with GM plastic bumpers there was no way to paint it and make it look good as well as last.
I was just curious because I'd prefer body matching than grey.
Thanks guys.

Message: If there is texture on the bumper, that will show through the paint. As far as lasting most people forget one major addition to paint when painting a potential moving part. This would be a flex agent. A flex agent added to the paint will prevent cracking, or spider webbing in the paint. If you skip the flex you will regret it very shortly. Mixture of flex to paint depends on the manufacturer of the paint, you local automotive paint dealer will be able to tell you the correct ratios. I haven't done it personally but you may be able to sand surface to smooth out the texture.

Message: I Painted the lower bumper on my SLT and the rear bumper inserts.
They look much better than the textured grey plasic.
I have read posts by others that have painted their bumpers and mirrors to match body color.
Mine is holding up very well, and it definatly takes more abuse than the bumper ever will.
Side note, I have seen crome bumpers on Ebay for about $50. If this is an option you may look into that, it will cost you about $300 for the paint work...from anyone worth having it done by anyway.
Good luck and post your results so other can learn from your experiences.
