Subject: Dual Batteries? IP: Logged
Message: I recently had a winch installed on my 2001 CC SLT and am wondering if I need to consider a dual battery setup. Is the factory H.D electrical option (136-amp alternator)sufficient? If not, how difficult would a dual setup be? Doesn't look like there is much room in the engine compartment to do this kind of modification.

Message: Your in great shape unless your winch is in constant use. If you decide you need another battery you will most likely need to mount it in the truck bed. There is a relocation kit for performance purpouses to relocate the battery to the bed also. This is to lighten up the heavy front end and put the weight where it's needed, over the rear wheels. Obviously a speed oriented mod.

Message: I have a 93 Grand Cherokee and Im installing a Ramsey 9000 lb. winch. I have purchased a good isolator switch to hookup a dual battery setup.. My question is : I have to put the secondary battery in the back; is there going to be a problem with gas vapor from the battery?? and should I hook the winch to the primary battery or the secondary battery??

Message: Ask the manufacture what the winch needs for juice. Then decide on what to install.

Message: If I'm not mistaken, I think I once heard that the Optima batteries are a sealed unit and may not need to vent. You may check with a dealer to find out for sure.
