Message: STS,
maybe you found the prolem by now, although I don't have an auto tranny, I think I read something on lots of other posts about a valve body sensor, or something like that being the culprit.

Message: I have a 97 w/ posi and right now it sticks in 2nd until I let off the gas. All the externals were checked and are ok. Looks like rebuild time. At 100,000 miles I'm not too disapointed. It's not like I baby it anyway. Just looking for a reputible shop and a good price.
Don't wanna piss anyone off here, just my opinion but dodges in general have their share of problems. Dependability doesn't always go hand in hand with satisfaction. I love the way my truck looks, feels and performs and am willing to put up with the hassles from time to time.

Message: Rick,
I'm no auto guy, but, still sounds like that selenoid valve thingy the're always talking about!
Look at the tips and tricks from speed tweaks site, it has a good explanation there.
If this has been checked already, by a shop NOT trying to sell you a whole new tranny, then, sorry to waste your time.

Message: I thinking it could be a problem with the Map sensor, or even the TBS sensor.
The Tranny I've got is a RH modle. Not a electronic tranny. The transmission is some what simular to the older Tourqe/power flight Auto's back in the old days when Chrysler built transmissions that where built to last. Just that this one has got a 4th gear with tourqe converter lock in. The problem is as bad now since I add some Transmission Fluid (AFT Valevoline) But is still shifts rough as hell. I would like to trade the truck in for A Dakota just like it but with a 5 speed tranny. And I here there hard to find one equipt with a 318 like mine has.
This truck does have 160 K miles on it and so far the engine dosn't miss a bit. I love the motor. Hate the tranny. But love the Transfercase. (NV 241 is a tough one.

Message: Dakotas have always been known for bad transmissions, from day one. They haven't improved much over the years. Towing will especially tear up the tranny over time. If you do much towing, buy another brand of truck.

Message: I assume your truck is out of warrenty. I cannot help you with the torque converter, but I would like to let everyone know that if they have problems with thier trucks while under warranty and the dealer fails to fix it properly; after the third try you truck could be covered by the lemon laws. I learned the hard way. I made many trips to the dealer to fix a sloppy transmission shift problem while the truck was still under the factory warranty. I was never fixed properly. Now with 65K on the the truck, the sloppy shift has grown to 2nd gear complety gone - slips like hell.
The result - the dealer says it will cost $2500.00 to fix it! What the @#$%^$#! Stick to your guns if you have a problem which is covered under warranty! Call the Chrysler Care number and pinch a fit! Or else....
