Subject: Need help on choosing which dakota tobuy IP: Logged
Message: I will be buying a dakota pretty soon but I'm struggling which to get. the choices are A regular Sport 4x2 v6 3.9 club cab or the v8 or the R/T the biggest issue for this is the gass prices. I do a lot of driving and do not want to spend a lot of gas. However I also what to put a lot of performance parts and make it into showroom conditions. I heard that there is not a lot of performance parts for the v6 . if anyone can help me by giving good websites or your opinion that'd be great thanks!

Message: The V-6 is not that good on fuel. I have one. Go for the V-8, you will get the itch we all have and kick your self for buying a 6.

Message: Definitley get the 4.7L. The gas mileage is the same as the 3.9L. Performance products for the 4.7L are beginning to become plentiful. And if you lay off the gas pedal and Don't get a supercharger...your m.p.g. should stay the same or maybe even improve a little.

Message: I agree, get the 4.7L. It gets the same milage as the 3.9L and has more power. I'd also recommend getting an extended cab if you can afford it, the regular cabs are somewhat lacking in the 'places to stick stuff' department (Whodathunkit?)

Message: 4x4 and a v6?
I'll bet you a dollar you'll get better MPG with the 4.7, than 3.9. By the time you get your foot into it enough to even think about running like a 4.7 would, it'll eat gas!
I don't need to hear about the highly modified v6's hanging with the 4.7's-OK

Message: I'll second or third the skip the V-6 comment.
I bought the CC V-6 and have compared notes with a few with V-8's on here, they have the same or BETTER gas mileage. And I have the Tonneau cover also. But I do have about 100-200 lbs more tow capacity with the V-6! Sheesh!
IF you go with the R/T you will NOT have any tow capacity.

Message: I know I am speaking a bit out of turn on this as I have yet to tow anything with my R/T....but, I suspect I could tow 6K now that I have added the Roadmaster Active Suspension which..among other things...does raise the rearend of the R/T an inch or more. Only reason the tow capacity was dropped on the R/T is due to them lowering it an inch..so why not. Cost should be around $150 and it is a DIY project.
