Subject: Tranny Clicking Noise IP: Logged
Message: I just noticed this today, I have a 2002 4.7 auto, and when I change gears I hear a 1-2 second clicking sound from the tranny. With the windows up I never noticed it, but I was working on it in the driveway today, and heard the sound. It happens when shifting out of park, or from R to D and vice versa.
Could this be a stuck solenoid or something similar? Anyone else experience anything like this?

Message: This clicking noise is usually when you go from Park to Drive. It is perfectly Normal. I went to Dodge and test drove a few Durango's, and everyone of them clicked in the same manner. My Dakota does the same. Fear not young apprentice, it is ok.

Message: Sorry to open this board back up but I have a related question. My truck (2002 V6 auto) makes the same noises but they are L-O-U-D. This also happens once, twice, or even four times while accellerating. I hear it (as do other passengers) with the windows up and it is still loud. I just doesn't seem normal. I drove another Dakota just today and it made the sounds with the decibel level and frequency that y'all are talking about. Mine is similar but much louder and more often (when moving). Usually it gets better the more I drive but almost always clicks once when I give it gas. What's going on? (It's coming from the middle or the rear end). Anybody know? Thanks.

Message: if they are lowered or lifted it could be the drive shaft binding from wrong pinion angle.
