Subject: Heating & Fanbelt problems

Message:
Hi,
I think I have two seperate issues but maybe they are related.
I have a 98 5.2 with aprox. 88000 miles.
About a week ago I noticed the air coming into the cab was still cool, even with the setting at full heat.
This morning the heat was better for a time and water temp was 190, about 2 miles down the road I could smell the fanbelt and the water temp climbed quickly to just below the red. I pulled in the clutch and let the engine Idle and the temp went back down just as fast to normal (190) operating temp.

stuck thermostat?
wasted or cavitating water pump?
worn out belt?

any suggestions are apprecited.

Thanks,

Rob
