Subject: ROBERTSHAW IP: Logged
Message: so i'm in the middle of putting in my new 180 degree thermostat... and i noticed on the old one that there's a small ball bearing on the factory thermostat. uhh... robert shaw doens't have this. should i worry or just proceed.

Message: Dan , dont worry.. the check ball on factory T stat is to pass air that may be trapped, I just drilled a 1/8" small hole in approx area on new T stat. Doing this will ensure no trapped air.

don't drill any holes, STILL works just fine.
If it's going in a 4.7, I'd notch out the area that the re-usable gasket seats into, look at the old t-stat, you'll see the dimple.

Message: Thanks! yea, i ended up notching the thermostat with the dremmel. i was suprised, the thermostat from chrysler that i removed looked far higher in quality than any other thermostats i've ever seen.

OEM is often the best stuff you can buy. That's why I went with the factory HO cams, not too radical, but a definite difference.

Message: putting cams in my 4.7 will be my next little project. however i'll wait until i get myself moved to Montana where i have a nice heated garage to work in. And yea, i'll end up with Mopar cams too. :)
