 Subject: Which tranny do I have?

I have a 1992 regular cab Dakota. It is 2wd and has the 3.9L engine. It says in the owners manual that in 1992 Dodge offered the AX-15 and another tranny. How do I know which one I have? I could not find the ID plate on the tranny so I do not know which I have.

What you got is either a NV (new venture)3500 if you got a manuel.
Or a 42RH Auto. or something like a A-500.
The AX-15 is the transmission used with the 4 cylinder engines which Dodge no longer offers.

Isn't the NV 3500 a Jeep transmission? I know Jeep was bought by Chrysler in '91 and assumed they interchanged parts, but I thought to get a NV 3500 in a Dakota, you had to do a swap. I guess I am wrong. Do you know where the ID number is stamped in the transmission? Do you have a clutch recommendation for that transmission?

Now I have differening opinions. STS told me that I have the NV3500 in my 92 Dakota, and someone at Moparchat told me I have the AX-15. As I mentioned before, I can't find the ID number on the tranny and there is not a label in my glove box. Does anybody know where I can find this info out? Can I get a build sheet from the dealership?

Chrysler bought AMC, which made Jeep's, in 1987. I believe the AX-15 http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/ax15.htm was used in 4 bangers. The NV 3500 is made by New Venture http://www.newventuregear.com/transmissions.html is a joint partnership between GM and Chrysler.

The X-15 or NV1500 was for the very week four bangers only Daktrep9298!! The NV3500 (no replaced with Getraq trannys) was mated to the 239V6 and 318 V8 motors.

I you want to know what type of tranny you have call chrysler customer service with your vin # and they can probably tell you.

318 had the 46RH tranny (A518) back in 1991.
