Subject: Gas cap IP: Logged
Message: How tight should the gas cap be ? Any other vehicle I've ever owned, the cap was tight. When I try to tighten this one it just clicks and never snugs up. I also smell gas fumes periodically. I was in for an oil change to-day but as usual the dealer said nothing was wrong.
Any ideas ??

Message: Lew, who?
Anyway,
I think it clicks, to maintain a spring loaded, pressure seal that can serve as a relief valve when needed. The amount of pressure is very important on any newer vehicle, and will throw a MIL (check engine) light when out very much for very long.
Just tighten it till it clicks a few times, you could turn it endlessly and it would keep clicking.

Message: Lew. If your worried about it, just go to Autozone and buy a new one. There only like $5.
