Subject: Air Filter Noise? IP: Logged
Message: just had a stupid question, is it unusual to have a hissing and sometimes high pitched noise coming from my air intake filter?? does it mean it needs to be cleaned or is that normal?

Message: I think what you're hearing is the air going into the throttle body. I had the same thing until I got a FASTMAN smoothed TB and then the noise went away. [AirAid cold air intake system]. Just the lumps, bumps and obstructions the air has to go around. No big deal,...D

Message: OR,
it could also be the viscous clutch belt driven fan (if you still have one) turning the fan fully until the clutch starts to 'slip' again until the engine is getting too hot, then it will grab again.
It's pretty funny how many people have taken their ride into the dealer, because at start up, they hear the loud, whoosing noise for awhile, then it's gone.
Don't know if this is what you're hearing though.

Message: Had a similar thing happen to my truck. Heard a "hissing" noise on engine shut down that I thought was coming from the air filter/tube area. Well after doing some checking/looking/listening, I found the rubber hose that attaches to the TB going to a "T" fitting next to the battery had a huge split about an 1" long, at the T fitting. Cut the split out, problem solved.
Just a thought.
