Subject: Generation I versus Generation II IP: Logged
Message: I have a very rust free, nice 1989 Dodge Dakota convertible. It is two wheel drive, v6, automatic with the short box, equipped with all options. What I want, is a 4x4, with a 318, and a long bed in a convertible. It should have all options and also in very good condition. The trouble is, it was never built by Dodge, so I want to. 1989 and 1990 were really the only convertibles made, except for I think 8 in 1991. What I need to know, is what is the difference from one generation to the next. Has anyone measured them out? Same width? Same body lines? Can I find a nice maybe 1993 with all options, and switch out just the cabs? Are they anywhere near the same. I would obviously find one with the 318 option and perhaps a few extra things the older ones wouldn't have. Can anyone help?

Message: I don't know the answer to you question, but I would leave the convertible original and buy another truck if you want 4WD and have it's top cut if you must have a convertible. The original convertibles are going to be collectors items some day. It seems a shame to hack one up.- JMO.
