Subject: Cold Weather Shifting IP: Logged
Message: Its been cold here in WI (below zero) and when i start my truck in the morning and drive on the freeway it doesnt want to shift into overdrive and revs at like 3000 at 70mph. I am wondering if this is something that Dodge designed in to help the engine warm faster or if this is a more serious problem. Anybody seen this?

Message: Chances are that this is one of those rare times where the "it's supposed to work that way" mantra really applies. By not shifting into OD, the engine works harder and warms up quicker, which brings the cat to operating temperature faster, which then allows your truck to pollute less. If you drive the truck long enough, it'll eventually warm up and shift into OD. If it never does, then you probably need to get it checked out.
For what it's worth, I had an old GMC truck that would take about 5 minutes of highway driving before it shifted into OD in cold weather.

Message: Check the temp sensor in the trany. IF that goes bad then the ECM sends data to the PCM via a data bus. I do not know if your's works this way but most modern tranys get secondary temp info from the engine coolant sensors as a back up. If either one is bad then you computers could be selecting the wrong cold weather shifting program! Hope this helped a little!!!!
