Message: ATF+4, but only if you do a complete swap, not a "topping off." Funny, I just read the TSB on that today at the NHTSA website. They have a PDF scan of it.

Message: as far as draining it, I have been removing the return hose and letting all of it drain then turning the wheel lock to lock about 20 times, then fluching through a hlaf quart or so then filling by reconnecting the hose and put in some, turn lock to lock, fill some more etc... Does anyone know of a faster way, i have to do this sometime this week and it is COLD... (oil change at the same time, yuck)...

Message: Like I said, see the NHTSA web site for the PDF scan of the document. It's not a procedure for changing fluid, though, just the recommendation for fluid types and list of factory filled fluids for different years/models.

Message: Chris,
Though not identical, ATF and PS Fluid are very similar in their composition. Many auto manufacturers specify ATF for their PS systems. I believe that in most cases you will find that whatever ATF you choose, it will have more friction modifier in it, and do a better job than PS fluid. However, I am not making a recommendation to use ATF in place of the PS Fluid. I for one have only used PS Fluid. I just wanted to answer your actual question to the best of my ability.

Message: THe TSB on this issue recommends flushing and refilling with ATF+4 but it also said that the two were compatable so they could be mixed. Mixing the two makes it look like you have old oxidized fluid in the resorvoir. It will also lessen the benifitts of pure ATF+4 or it's equvilant.

Message: I have Alldata at work. I think page 4 or 5 on the TSB site is were my origanal post is. You can also type ATF+4 into google and you will come across the informatio from the TSB that someone else keyed into another user group.I read the TSB on my break and take notes and then retype them from home.
