Message: Because a website in spanish about sewing machines
makes far more sense than a website trying to stop the
merger between Daimler-Benz and Chrysler........ For a real
issue check out www.amctakeover.com, flocking Iacocca!
That sumbitch will ruin AMC and all that it stands for. I
better still be able to get dealer parts for my Gremlin.

Message: Exactly the point. FYI...Chrysler never tried to veil their takeover of AMC by calling it a "merger". The board of Chrysler was right up front by saying they were buying AMC for the Jeep division and some of the plants, especially the brand new Bramalea, ON plant. And today that is all that is left of AMC, the Jeep division and a few plants. Chrysler never once lied about why it wanted AMC.
Daimler Benz, OTOH, tried to sell it's takeover of Chrysler Corporation by calling it "a merger of equals". It never was any such thing. The only reason they used those code words was to assuage the board and shareholders of Chrysler and to try to pull the wool over the eyes of the exceedingly stupid American public, especially Chryslers customers, who are still under some sort of dillusion that Chrysler is still an American company.
I'd like to point out that as for the last detail, the folks over in Stuttgart were right on the money.

Message: Who cares? 1) Loyal lifelong Dodge customers. The people who have been in Dodges all their lives. Sorry, the current crop of 16 YO hill billy boy racer wannabes doesn't count. 2) People whpo want to buy products made by American companies that are headquartered in the US and run out of the US. Dodge is German and run out of Stuttgart by Germans. Or hadn't anyone noticed?

Message: General Motors is not owned in any part by a foreign company.
Ford Motor Company is not owned in any part by a foreign company.
Foreigners may own stock in Ford or GM but that is not the same as "ownership" of the companies.
I have to ask myself two questions. 1) Can some of you get any more stupid? 2) Why are some people so dead set against owning a Toyota truck but will gladly buy a Dodge when the two are both foreign owned, outright, but built here?
Global economy? Some of you had better wise up. "Global economy" is a catch phrase corporations invented to ship our jobs to third world countries. Why do you think our economy is in the shltter right now? Do you think it has anything to do with Mexicans and Chinamen getting paid .001% what American workers do? Notice how the quality of imported goods is shlt?
Buy American....Ford or GM. Remember this one, "Hungry? Eat your import."

Message: DOLT, no offense to you or american workers,i'm one myself but I have noticed that i've had to replace my upper and lower ball joints ,control arm bushings, two cats(the third is hollowed),and fix my intermediate steering shaft, all on a vehicle thats only three years old...... I wish my dakota was made in japan, it would be easier on my wallet.I still like my dakota but dodge took short cuts where they should'nt have..quality.

Message: It's not the workers fault, it's the people who designed the components. Ball joints fail because of their frail design. The line workers just put the parts they're provided together. Had your Dakota been assembled in Japan, the results would have been the same because of the faulty design of certain components.

Message: designers, you are correct ,I didn't mean the dodge assemblers .
DODGE the corporation is at fault for using,buying,and/or manufacturing cheap parts.
I'm sure the designers are encouraged to cut corners to save money,so it's not entirely there fault either.

Message: The real story is that Chrysler scrood themselves over first, by gutting their entire organization of workers that were between the ages of 29 and 55 as a 'cost-saving' measure. In the end they not only had no bench left, they also lost a lot of the detail knowledge on how to build cars. So, they ran into trouble as a company and had to have Daimler-Benz bail them out. They left themselves no other choice.
You see this all the time in US companies now - first, executive management does really stupid things just for the next quarter's profit and their own personal short-term 'empire-building'. Second, when things fall apart (like Enron, Chrylser, Worldcom, HP) everyone else ends up paying. Not only in manufacturing, but also now in the computing/information technology business.
In addition to this of course, all the major vehicle companies in the world now are all globally diversified. Components, subcomponents, and final assembly are all done in a hundred different locations. (Bad idea to lose any sleep over this one.)
