Message: Thought everyone would get a kick out of this. My uncle has a 2000 f-150 4x4 5.4L. Bugged him from day one for buying a Ford. Anyways, last friday he pulls in the yard with an awlful ticking noise coming from the engine bay. Only seemed to be running on 4 cylinders. Turns out the timing chain broke on one bank and ended up seizing the engine. Funny thing is it only has 24000 milles on it!!! That's Ford quality for ya!

Message: Just cause a chain broke doesn't mean it's poor quality. That can happen on anything.
Reading this board you constaantly read about dak problems. Gutless v-6 motors, brake rotors warping after a few miles and how about the front end parts that can't be lubed. Ball joints failing before the trucks are hardly off the dealer lot. The day after I bought my truck brand new I had to have the entire axle housing replaced because of a rear end leak. The windshield washer pump had to be replaced after 2000 miles. The ring gear had to be replaced in the differential after 9000 miles. It can't be blamed on poor maintenance either because I treat this truck like one of my kids. It just shows that things can happen to any make no matter how well there looked after.
