Subject: 2000 V6 Quad Cab-noise in steering column IP: Logged
Message: Every once in a while, my steering wheel gives off a very mild "clunk" while turning (Almost feels like something is loose). Feels like it is transmitting up from the steering column......
Has anyone ever experienced this???? HELP..

Message: Is probably your clock spring going out. A lot of 2000 Quad cabs are doing this. just had mine replaced. Get your dealer to check it as soon as possible.

Message: It is a spring in the steering column the provides power to the cruise control, air bag, etc. Dodge has been having problems with them breaking on the 2000 quads for some reason. My friends went out within a few weeks after he got his truck back in Nov. When it breaks, you loose power to these items meaning you will have no air bag if you were to get into a wreck. Usually you will know once it has broken. You will definitely here it and you air bag light will come on on hte dash. If it is making a noise now then it is getting ready to break. I would get it serviced as soon as possible as it is a safety issue.

Message: I have a 2000 QC 4.7. I had the clockspring fixed yesterday but the reason I took it in was for the clunking noise that occurs when I turn sharp at low speeds. They determined that the intermediate steering shaft had to be replaced. It's on order, hopefully that resolves the problem.

Message: Thanks for the feedback.....I recently brought the truck in and was told the noise was due to the lower coupling......the part is on order.
Anyone know what the lower coupling is? Or is this just a shot in the dark.

Message: My 2000 Quad v6 4x2 does the same thing. But only clunks when turning left. The dealer checked and claims nothing is loose in the front end. The clunking noise is pissing me off, sure would like to find a fix for this.

Message: Most likely intermediate shaft for sure since you can feel it in steering wheel. I work in parts for a dodge dealer and we sell quite a few of those.

Message: if you can feel a thumping in the steering wheel, its probably the intermediate shaft. I am on my third one in 7200 miles.poor design.i hope they come up with fix or I'll be replacing it annually.
