Subject: 2WD tire size IP: Logged
Message: I was considering my next set of tires and here's what I was thinking:
285/60R16 or 275/60R16s (depending on what tires are available) on the front.
295/65R16 on the rear.
I'm thinking this would give it a nice rake and get the fat rear look like that I like. Would these fit okay on the stock rims? (I have 285/60R16's on the rear and the originals on the fronts now)

I think all those tires will fit but it may look kinda funny. Too tall for my taste. I plan on getting some 255/55-16's or some 255/65-16's.

Go to this site to compare what you have now to what you want. It gives rpm change and everything.

Message: Stock size is 255/65R16 (29"). I personally like a good wheel well filling tire with pleanty of sidewall.
I don't know what you have on yours now, but if you're gonna get new rims, go for 17's. There's quite a bit more available tires for that size. 16's are almost a sedan or 4WD size. (ie: 225 width or above 65 aspect ratio)

Message: And I know I'll be about 5-10% fast on the diameter. I've actually made a universal spreadsheet that can calculate the speeds in every gear given any tire size. (I can post it if anyone is interested)

Message: Your right about your speed. Right now i'm running 235/70-15 BFG's. Their pretty crappy. I have some 16x8 in. rims waiting to have tires on them. I'm leaning towards the 255/55-16's Kumho's just because. No real reason. I'm looking forward to finally having some better traction though. I thought about some really aggresive traction like what you are looking for but I realized that I don't really race my truck and there is no local track down here in Ft. Myers. The closest track for me is 2 hours away.

Message: Yeah I figured that out a while ago. I wish I would've realized it before I bought the 16x8's though. Oh well. So i'm probably gonna get the 255/55-16's then. I think they look sportier. The 255/65-16's are almost 4x4 tires. I used to run 235/75-15's on an old nissan 4x4 I had.

Message: I just got my R/T rims in, and in about a month I'll be putting them on my quad. But I'm still having some difficulty finding a tire size. I could go with the stock size that comes on the R/T (255/55/17), but what about the size 275/55/17? Would this tire be too wide for the front when it comes to turning? Would the tire throw the computer off for the ABS (2WD, drums in back)? Keeping the stock suspension, would the ride be less softer? I thought I read somewhere that switching to the R/T rims with the stock tire size also will not change the speedo. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

Message: CThomp, I went to that calculator, and according to that, I can put 255/60-17s on my rims without modifying the speedo. But I found it interesting, if I went with a width of 275, it increased the diameter? Would you know why? Thanks.
