i have a 98 5.2L dakota and the tail lights are staying on after truck is turned off

Is it the brake lights that are staying on? I would check the brake switch its probably stuck so it leaves the brake lights on. If its the regular parking.running lights than I would check the on off switch. In some cases they can short inside
