Subject: 5.2 fuel economy upgrade suggestions? IP: Logged
Message: 98, 5.2 Ext. Cab, 4x4 Sport. 13 mpg at best. I got 16 mpg on an interstate drive vacation...once.
My question...What can I do? K&N Filter, and catback? Will it help a little? You guys have already talked me out of a TB spacer.
I didn't have a problem with the economy before, but my job relocated from 20 miles to 75 miles roudn trip. That, and $1.60 mid grade, and now it is adding up quick. I do not want to get a new vehicle.
I know this has been brought up before, but usually for 4.7's & 5.9's. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Message: A K&N FIPK gave me about .7 MPG increase on my 97 5.2. The Cat-back should help too. I added mine when I did some other mods so I can't give you a good number on it.
MSD 6AL, SS blaster coil, 8.5mm wires, Accel cap and rotor, autolite 3923 plugs, K&N FIPK, 180 degree T-stat. Gibson single CAT-back, Carsound CAT, MOPAR PCM. Crower 1.7 RR's, F&B 50mm TB, M1 intake and turtle, Black Magic 150 electric fan, JBA ceramic coated headers, JBA Y-Pipe

Hey Hoody,
Check with the AMSOIL Sponsor here at DodgeDakotas.com
I switched over to the AMSOIL products years ago and I am very impressed with the performance.
Most users see an increase in fuel economy just by doing a simple fluid change.

Message: I have a 99 dak sport 4x4 cc 5.2L 5 speed the best I have done is 20mpg on a trip doing 55-65mph w/ msd 8.5mm superconductor wires ngk plugs brass terminal cap and rotor from nappa and flowmaster cat back i also have a toneau cover. I was getting 14-15mpg this summer in the city but durring the winter right now 90% city I'm getting 12mpg. I have also added a 360 air intakez they are $185 and work realy well mine came w/ a k&n filter now they use s&b, I also added edelbrock headers. But the plugs wires cap and rotor and air intake are proubly the most cost effective way to improv it your milage also speed is a big factor I get 15mpg at 75 and at 60-65 I got 18 and at 55 20mpg also either get a toneau cover or run w/ your tailgate down. you can get a toneau for $200 threw summit I just bought a teckstyle ultra lift. Hope this helps
